AMTA Definition of Massage Therapy
MASSAGE THERAPY is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client.
MASSAGE is manual soft tissue manipulation, and includes holding, causing movement, and/or applying pressure to the body.
THERAPY is a series of actions aimed at achieving or increasing health and wellness.
MANUAL means by use of hand or body.
Delaney Farmer, LMP
Licensed Massage Practitioner
Delaney Farmer graduated from Seattle Massage School in Everett Washington. Washington State requires 500 hours to be licensed, and Delaney graduated with over 1000 hours of training in December of 1997. He received his State license one month later in January 1998 and has been practicing since.
Delaney enjoyes working with the athletic, weekend warrior population. He is currently on the Washington Sports Massage Team, affiliated with the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association). Delaney enjoys providing massages at many of these events ranging from marathons, triathlons, biking events and much more. If he is not massaging at an event, he has been known to event direct several of the sports massage events throughout the year.
Delaney was fortunate to be part of the medical team for the 2004 Men's and Women's Diving Team Trials for the 2004 Olympics.
Delaney enjoys being active within the massage community and has been a board member of the AMTA-WA Chapter since 2001. Currently, Delaney has created, maintains and organizes the AMTA-WA Chapter's website:
